Make the January Recipe – Kale, Date, and Avocado Salad

Well friends, it’s officially 2021. Let that reality soak in for a minute, then think – how does that make you feel? Are you relieved because you think there could never again be a year like 2020? Are you anxious because you don’t know if 2021 will look any different than the last 12 months? Are you indifferent because you just don’t think God is in your life right now? 

No matter what you are feeling, we want to remind you that our God is still on the move. It’s a brand new year, 365 days yet to be lived out, and it’s up to us to choose how we are going to enter into them. If we believe that God is real (and we do!), then we want to live like it, even if 2021 leaves us with even more unanswered questions and even more uncertainty than 2020 did. No matter what the next 12 months look like, we want to keep choosing God, over and over again, because we know that He alone is our Hope. 

As we consider how to walk through this new year, we want to remember the story of Daniel. He lived in a time when worshipping the Lord his God was outlawed, and when he was told to pray to King Darius alone. Daniel didn’t skip a beat, however: 

Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before. – Daniel 6:10

Even though the world around him was choosing to worship their human king, instead of the King of Kings, Daniel knew his God alone was worthy of worship. Are we as steady in the storms of life as Daniel was? Do we choose to continue seeking the Lord, just as we have always done, even when it seems like the world is falling apart? 

How do you want to live out the year 2021? Our prayer is that you keep choosing God, and that He opens your eyes to the people around you who need to know Him. People are craving community and connection in this new year, and we hope you accept the invitation to make disciples right where you are, even if it does look like a distanced walk or a backyard conversation by the fire. Let’s not waste a single day waiting for things to feel “normal” again; let’s use the days the Lord has made to love His children and to give Him all the glory. Happy New Year!
