“What is God saying to you? And what are you going to do with it?”
Longtime IF:Table host, Shaye Sedberry, recently shared that she often asks those two open-ended questions around her table in order to create space for everyone to show up just as they are and walk away with some practical next steps.
As we continue to talk about the importance of community in our lives this month, how are we creating a safe place for each other to show up and share? As someone whose IF:Table has consistently met since 2017, with women ranging in age from 24 – 62, Shaye shared some of the ways they’ve cultivated relationships and accountability around the table:
- Offer a safe space to process and hear from God. Allow each other to feel seen and offer accountability.
- Commit to being honest and open with each other.
- Ensure your IF:Table is a place for encouragement and building one another up. As Shaye shared with us, “It is not a place to come and bash your people. It’s about sharing the burdens on your heart.”
Hebrews 3:13 tells us to “encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today,’ so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” IF:Table is a tool to help you create space for your people to be encouraged, make disciples, and offer space to remember what is true. May you take one of Shaye’s tips and put them into practice this month so that your table can be a place of growing deeper with God and one another.
There’s one brand new tool we want to make sure you know about as well! Jennie Allen’s new book, Find Your People: Building Deep Community in a Lonely World releases on February 22, 2022, and we’re going to rally around this message as an IF:Table community this year. You’re already doing the work of building community, and with this new book, we want to help you build deeper and more meaningful relationships this year. You can pre-order your copy now!
